Hi, KeenShibe, thanks for applying.

Unfortunately, we're unable to pass you at the current skill level.

The problem is your excessive reliance on filtering. You went pedal to the metal on Topaz Denoise (or something like that) to smoothen away the Dust in the pages. On page 4, that was so extreme that the character's trousers in the middle panel got fused with the smoke. The patterns, which are precious details of the art, got lost in most of the pictures. You even used filtering on pages 5 and 7, which are high-resolution raws and should require no Topaz filtering whatsoever.

I'm not saying filtering is bad per se. For example, in low quality raws (there is at least one example in the test), some filtering can help a lot and is almost a must. But whenever you lose patterns and detail due to it, it's excessive.

Pages 1 and 2 ought to have been pre-merged leaving a gap in the middle for the redrawer to work on.

You also resized everything to 1200 px height. The size should be decided based on the quality of raws. The very best raws can be left at much larger height, in the 1600-2400 px range.

Your cropping was also excessive. When the panel edges are framed in black, you should leave a white border, and crop the border out when there is no frame. (As a rule of thumb.) Your straightening was also somewhat lacking, as we can see by the narrow white stripes at some edges (like the top left corner of page 1, for example).

You also left everything on RGB colour mode, even pages that were greyscale in the raws. That's indication to me that you really used Topaz on everything. Even when you do use Topaz correctly, you should leave cleans in greyscale as these are B&W images and need no colour information.

You did remove the text well, using a separate layer for that.

While we would be happy to reassess a resubmission, I'd say you have to work substantially on your technique before you can produce a successful application.

Thank you for supporting Death Toll.
