• We're recruiting!
If you visit our site regularly, you know that I tend to neglect this recruitment box. It's not so easy to update it, so instead I'll just link you to our recruitment page in MDex. It may seem weird to use the recruitment page we posted in another site to advertise our vacancies, but at least that one is mostly up to date at all time. You don't need to register to see the page: https://mangadex.org/thread/6317.

It also includes our invitation to translators for new projects.

Remember, scanlation is a hobby. There's no money involved in it whatsoever.

Read this before choosing a test, please!

I can't believe I am writing this...

Well, some very strange things have happened with applications.

For some reason, a few among you seem to have been working under the assumption that the Editor's test is the most comprehensive one or the test of choice if you want to pick up just any job we are recruiting for. I admit that part of this is our fault: maybe we oughtn't to have called it the "editor's test", but I cannot think of a better word, seriously.

So here are a few guidelines to avoid your wasting time (yours and ours) in the future. Read this carefully before choosing a test.

Lesson 01: the definition of the Editor's test and why you won't get to redraw for us by doing it just because it is easier

An editor is quite a prestigious title here at Death Toll. We use it for people who can at least clean and typeset, and thus can be entrusted with editing a series solo if they can also redraw. We have just one at the moment, Kabuto, who is also our Head Cleaner.

However, redrawing is a very specialised skill so we decided putting out a test that included it in addition to cleaning and typesetting would be overkill, especially in a group like ours that currently is doing only redraw-heavy series. (Not that we only choose such series, it just happened.)

So the Editor's test doesn't test redrawing. Yes, it is easier than our redrawing test, but you won't get to redraw any of the series for which we are currently recruiting even if your submission of an Editor application is successful. This one tests different skills.

Lesson 02: we didn't make the Redrawing Test just for the heck of it, there's a reason for its existence

We know it is difficult. We know we may be losing the opportunity to bring in motivated people because it is so hard to pass our test. However, there is no way around it... the series for which we have redrawing positions are very difficult, so you need to be able to do them and that test tries your skills thoroughly for that reason. It is pointless to give you an easier test if later you cannot do the task we assigned you.

Lesson 03: if you just want to clean or typeset for us, the specific tests are actually easier

The Editor's test combines the tasks of the Cleaning and Typesetting tests, minus one page of the Cleaning one that is a little harder. So if you just want to typeset, or just want to clean, there is no need for you to go the extra mile and do the Editor's test. It is also easier to assess your skill. If you do the editor's test and pass, we will ask you to work in an open position, not necessarily what you want to do. If you prefer typesetting and we don't have typesetting spots open, we will only offer you cleaning spots. The Editor's test won't magically land you in a position for which we are not recruiting, so please read the list of open positions that comes with each release before taking the test.

That said, we reserve the right to fail you without comment if you submit the wrong test for the position you want.

One more thing: if you apply for a position we're not recruiting for, we may assess your test if we feel like it, but we won't make you a staff member unless we have a job for you.

If you understand that, you will find the threads for the actual tests in the forum that houses this announcement. Sorry for the wall of text, but we have had quite a few Editor's tests submitted wrongly in recent months.
